Whilst we waited for the Basilica of San Francisco El Grande to open at 10am the next morning, we wandered next door to the church's rose garden.
This is definitely NOT your typical church garden. It's more than 45,000 square feet of garden -- long large rectangles of containing roses. There are varieties of rose bushes in all, and the end of the garden, on the same plateau as the Royal Palace, affords striking views of western Madrid. While we were there in the morning, apparently, like the Egyptian Temple of Debod in Madrid, the sunset views are fantastic.
