A Mostly Good End To Our Day In Verona

We finished our day in Verona by wandering around the south end:

Selfie by the Adige River, with the Roman
Theater and Castello San Pietro on the
other side.  We didn't make it up to the
Castello for view back to Verona, but we
were running out of gas.

We did stop in at one more church.
We had a choice between Sant
Anastasia (which is the one we
choose) and the Duomo

Sculpted lion photos, like real
lion photos, are hard to pass up.

Hunchback holds up a basin
of holy water.

Another whimsical hunchback
holding up another water basin.

An unobstructed view of the Roman
Theater and the fortress of San Castello.
Gotta love the cypress trees.

One of the tombs of the Scaligeri
family.  This is a classic
example of a 14th century
Gothic tomb.  The Scaligeri's
changed the law so they could
be buried in town.  They also
forbade the building of any
new towers unless it was their own.

Dinner was the worst experience of the trip.  We were treated poorly by the wait staff and sommelier.  We went to the acclaimed Antica Bottega del Vino, but we were underwhelmed by the whole situation.  First, we were seated, handed the menu, and immediately asked what we wanted to order.  Immediately, as in we had barely cracked the menu.  When we said we weren't ready, the waiter haughtily walked away, then ignored us for a while, despite the fact he was working the tables right next to us.

Then, when I all but physically tackled him to take our order (I didn't touch him) , he was quite rude.  It wasn't a pleasant experience. . .don't go there.

After dinner we walked nearly a mile through the quiet streets, looking forward to our last stop of the trip -- Milan.
