(Editor: There's no photos from St, Margaret's in this post. Writer: Yup, the title is my literary protest against the St. Margaret's policy of not allowing photography. Editor: Well, you sure are handling it maturely.)
Rose window selfie
And the other rose window.
Gotta love it -- "Pioneering Neurologist,
World Champion Runner" is one of the
best memorials ever.
Drunken Dragon.
I guess this plaque is in
the Abbey to appease
the four supporters he had
after "Peace in Our Time."
If I could grow a beard
(I can't), I'd want it to look
like his.
It's hard for me to pass by a sculpture that
includes a skull and NOT take a picture.
Chapel of King Henry VII.
The colorful banners represent
the Knights of Bath, who meet
here when convened. I've not
been invited to join yet.
The ceiling in the Chapel is carved
stone, not plaster. Done in 1519,
It's considered the finest English
Perpendicular Gothic and fan vaulting
you'll ever see.
This spectacular lion sits at
the feet of the tomb of Mary,
Queen of Scots. I've never
seen any other lion like it.
I'm not lying, this is
also part of her tomb.
And so are these dudes. I'd
love to the know the reason
for the height difference
between the first two dudes
and the last two.
It's hard for me to pass by a sculpture
that includes a skull and NOT take
a picture.
Puff, the Rabid Dragon.
William Shakespeare. Good
thing he's been dropped from
a lot of American high school
English curriculums, otherwise
kids might learn something.
Lower left, arches in the
Great Cloister. Upper
right, the two towers at
the front of the Abbey.
Victoria Tower, the underrated
tower at the House of Lords
end of Parliament, overlooked
thanks to Big Ben. But I
love this Tower. More on it
in another post.
The front of Westminster
Abbey. Even in rain it's
remarkable.
