Portobello Road, Street Where The Riches Of Ages Are Stowed

So at Rick and Sandy's request, we went to the famed street markets of Portobello Road, which I had never been to before.

(The title of the post is a song lyric from the Disney movie "Bedknobs and Broomsticks."  I remember going as a kid to see it at a drive-in movie when it came out in 1971.  While I vaguely remember the feature movie, the short beforehand made a huge impression on me -- two gents were camping somewhere in Africa, and they woke up covered with biting ants.  That scene still freaks me out when it pops into my mind.  Excuse me, I have to go throw up now.)

Okay, I'm back.  Anyhow, our first stop was at The Eagle Pub for lunch and a pint.  Absolutely fabulous place, and a much better pub lunch than Sunday's stop.  It's just a block off Portobello Road.  After downing lunch (Rick really approved of this pub) we then headed back to Portobello Road markets and shops.

Heading east down Portobello, on the right are the vintage markets, whilst on the left are any number of food booths/trucks/etc.  While I'm glad we ate at The Eagle, I would have liked to have tried some of the food at the trucks/booths.  Well, we were winners either way.

We split off as couples, with Carol and I meandering one way, whilst Rick and Sandy meandering in a different direction.  Rick really enjoys looking at these kinds of markets, while I much prefer food markets such as La Boqueria in Barcelona.  We went into some shops, and ran into Rick and Sandy on the street at one point.

I hate graffiti but love great
and/or interesting street art,
such as this.

Interesting to see a street art painting
about the Spanish Civil War here.

The street has great shops on either
side.  And great architecture.

Just realized I didn't take any pictures of the markets.  Sorry, you'll just have to go yourself.
