Colmar: Beauty and the Beast

The folks we were renting from in Colmar allowed us early entry into the apartment (1pm instead of 4pm), which was the second story (first floor in Europe) of their house.  It was nice of them because, after the mess that was Riquewihr, I didn't want a repeat of that parking fiasco.

The apartment was on the outskirts of town, across from a farm growing, well, we're not sure what.  So after unloading the car, we left it there, and Uber'd into town.  Well, the center of town is off-limits to cars (which is nice), so our Uber driver let us off as close as he could get. . .the Little Venice section of Colmar.

Colmar is the model for the village in Disney's Beauty and the Beast.  Fortunately, we never met a modern day Gaston, but Colmar is quite quaint and picturesque.  There are many half-timbered houses, multiple Christmas markets, any number of historic buildings, cool fountains, and several cathedrals.

The Little Venice portion of Colmar
was packed with people.

Mid-century paintings of Colmar at Christmas.

Bertholdi, the sculptor of the Statue of Liberty
was born in Colmar in 1834.  There is a replica
statute at a roundabout outside of town, but
we ran out of time to track it down.  If you
go and it's really cool, don't tell me!

On top of a building.  I love my camera/zoom.

Love the colorful roofing tiles.

Did I mention I love the colorful roofing tiles?

The famous live white trees of Colmar.
(Editor's Note: Wait, really?
Writer: No, not really)

Q: How cool is this building?
A: Very.
