No Easy Road

Tuesday, two days after our Machu Picchu trip, was a grueling travel day.  We had three flights, going from Cusco to Lima, then Lima, Peru to Quito, Ecuador, and finally Quito to Guayaquil, the gateway to the Galapagos.

We got up at 5:30 am, had our bags outside our door at 6:00, and didn’t get to our hotel in Guayaquil till around 9:00 pm.  Besides the three flights, there was plenty of waiting in airports, two trips through security, one trip through immigration, and a bunch of blogging squeezed in  around work.

I think this is from the Cusco
airport. Or Lima.  Or Quito.

It’s a good reminder about how far these magical places are, so you need to come with your patience.  It’s not just a hop, skip, and a jump to Machu Picchu, and nor is it one from there to the Galapagos.

I gotta admit, I ran out of patience when, after Nat Geo said there would be “a light meal” upon arrival at the hotel, we were told, “nope, no food, order room service.”  We ended up having a nice dinner in the hotel restaurant with the six of us (drinks may have also been consumed), but I was hangry at Nat Geo for yet another deviation from what they told us.

I’m writing this the morning on the plane to the Galapagos, so my excitement level is rising.
