After the monastery, it was well past time for lunch. We found a little place on a small street not far from the monastery. We sat outside on a platform with multiple small tables and protected from the rain by a clear plastic cover.
A much younger couple soon sat at the table next to us, and we struck up a conversation with them. They are from Raleigh, and had been in Portugal for the last week, leaving the next day. We chatted at length, sharing travel stories and observations. I think Carol and I gave them a whole bunch more places to travel!
We so enjoyed talking to them that we lingered at lunch for quite a while, well into the mid-afternoon. We decided we didn't have the energy to do anything else after that, so we Uber'd back to the hotel.
