GPS Fails Us For The First Time. . .But NOT The Last Time (Days Of Future Post)

As soon as we started talking with our guide in Caceres, we learned why I couldn't find any VRBOs in Caceres for the dates we were going to be there.  Because there was a major three-day music festival that temporarily doubled the city's population from around 100,000 people to around 200,000 people.

So I had rented a townhouse/apartment (it was two stories and had a separate entrance to it from the buildings on either side) in Casar de Caceres, a small village of around 4,500 people, about a 15 minute drive north of Caceres.

We had our first real trouble driving there.  Well, not there, as driving through rural Spain is easy, whilst driving through Spanish cities, towns, and villages can be hard.  The roads in inhabited places are small, often one way, and go higgedly-piggedly through the town, blowing the mind of GPS, a driver, and a passenger.

Up till then our plan went alright, but when we got halfway through the village, GPS went crazy.  It kept spinning us around, trying to take us the wrong way on one way roads (I'm pretty certain we did that at least one).

It was a situation in which, as Paul Simon would say, "You know the nearer your destination, the more you're slip slidin' away."

I'm driving, stopping to text the landlord/manager of the property.  He was exhorting me with suggestions, but not helping as the GPS refused to follow his instructions.  Finally Carol put in an alternate address he gave us, and we found him.

After we brought the luggage in, he came out, got in the car with me, and led me to a parking space several blocks away on a quiet square.  To be fair, it was the only place we parked where we didn't have to pay.
