The tomb of Christopher
Columbus. Carried by
four pallbearers (statues,
not live people).
The Monstrance (until a few
years ago, I'd never heard of a
Monstrance). It's the massive
silver structure for showing
the communion wafer, and
is also used to parade the wafer
through Seville during
Corpus Christi festivities.
At 80 feet high, this wall of
gold is considered the
largest altarpiece ever made.
I'm not arguing with that.
One of the 44 scenes on the
altarpiece telling the story
of Jesus and Mary.
Ceiling of the Cathedral.
More of a close-up of the Tomb of Columbus.
He's still loved in Italy, Spain, and the
Soprano household.
Carol in the Court of the
Orange Trees, the entry way
to the Cathedral. We climbed
the Giralda. It's ramps, not
stairs, because men rode
horses or donkeys up for the
call to Muslim prayer.
The ramp makes it easier on
the knees than stairs would be.
