Dragons are everywhere.  In China, they are
water dragons, not fire dragons.  And they
are playful, not scary.

Seven mythical creatures on the roof  corners,
plus the Qilin -- a mythical beast.

A close-up.

Nicer than my garage peak.

This is us.

The Hall of Supreme Harmony.

The Hall gets ten mythical creatures
to show it is the most important
building in the country.

On a door.  The golden nails number
nine across and nine up, as nine
is a good number in Chinese lore.

The Qilin.  They are either
fierce or crazed looking.

Looking back toward Meridian Gate buildings.

The turtle represents earth-based longevity.

The grain meter.  It set the official
measure of grain throughout China.

The crane represents longevity
of the airborne kind.

Handles on a huge bucket for fire dousing.

The White Stupa in nearby Baihin Park.

Coal Hill, not part of the Forbidden City.

Dragon on a Pole -- these are
up  for the spring festival.

More spring festival decorations.

Mythical creatures in the sun.

The Chinese are just a bit uptight -- this is a
no touching sign on a temporary work wall!
