The Road To The Treasury: Photos

Hey, Indy, I hate Nazis too!

Carved tombs.

The Djinn Blocks.  The upper level has
the pyramids (different than Egypt),
while the lower level is the banquet hall.
If they served French mustard at the
diners these would be known as
the Dijon Blocks, but they missed
their marketing opportunity.

Tomb caves.

The start of The Siq, aka the Slot Canyon.

Beautiful coloring to the stone.  The
coloring is known as "Rose Red"

A nice place for a niche.

Osama makes a point.  (His last name
is Alsmadi so please chill out.)  And,
he'd bin born long before we
heard of the other Osama.

Mary and Neil.  Yes, it was
cold enough they had to
dress like penguins.

The aqueduct was covered in a pipe,
so the Nabataeans in Petra
could get water without
an army at siege knowing.

An idea of the
height of the Siq.

At points it got quite narrow. . .

Making defense easier.

This cracking cliff is now
being shored up by wires.
Didn't save the Old Man
In The Mountain (NH),
not sure how long this will work.

For some stone carvers, it
was a niche business to have.

Not sure why the sandstone
is black in parts, but sure
there is a logical explanation.
I'm just not going to search for it.

They even carved steps
to this tomb.

Man.

Camel feet.  The two carvings
are next to each other.

The cliffs are really tall.
